Western Allies Announce SWIFT Restrictions on Selected Russian Banks

The US, UK, Canada and European allies announced on 26 February 2022 that selected Russian banks would be removed from the SWIFT messaging system after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Their joint statement also promised restrictions on the Russian central bank and a task force to identify and freeze sanctioned individuals' assets. The measures targeted access to international finance through banks and asset ownership.
