Voice of Vietnam reported on 18 July 2025 that banks were expected to delete more than 86 million accounts from 1 September as part of an anti-fraud cleanup. The accounts had not been biometrically authenticated or had been inactive for a long time; the central bank said about 113 million personal accounts remained valid. The plan made biometric verification and account activity part of deciding which bank accounts would remain open.
