Vatican II Proclaims Nostra Aetate on Non-Christian Religions

The Holy See·28 October 1965

On 28 October 1965, Pope Paul VI proclaimed Nostra Aetate, the Second Vatican Council's declaration on the Church's relation to non-Christian religions. Noting that 'day by day mankind is being drawn closer together', it states that 'the Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions'. It says the Church 'regards with esteem also the Moslems' and calls for mutual understanding with Jews, citing their great common spiritual patrimony.
