South Korean lawmakers and regulators are considering letting citizens renew their "Connecting Information" identifier, or change it every one to three years, after leaks at seven companies in the past year. The 88-byte number is derived from the Resident Registration Number and is reused across websites, so a single breach can link and expose a person's wider records. No implementation plan has been finalised after nearly a year of review. The case shows how single, permanent identifiers concentrate risk as societies move more daily life onto linked digital identity systems.
