Pope Leo Invited to Join Trump's Global Board of Peace, Vatican Considering

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said on 21 January 2026 that Pope Leo XIV had received an invitation to join Donald Trump's Board of Peace. The Vatican was examining the proposal before giving a response, Parolin told journalists. The board began as part of the Gaza peace plan, while its charter sets out a wider role in areas affected or threatened by conflict. On 17 February, Parolin said the Holy See would not participate and that international crises should be managed above all by the UN.
