Lahti Trials Personal Carbon Budgets for Residents' Travel

EU Urban Mobility Observatory·23 September 2019

The Finnish city of Lahti launched the CitiCAP personal carbon trading trial, using a phone app to calculate participants' weekly travel emissions. The EU-funded scheme gave a standard allowance of 17 kilograms of CO2 a week, with higher budgets for some personal circumstances and rewards for staying below the limit. The trial applied an individual carbon budget to everyday travel through a mobile app.
