Jordan Annexes the West Bank After the 1948 War

UK Parliament (Hansard)·24 April 1950

Jordan gained control of the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1948 war. On 24 April 1950, its parliament approved union with the territory and King Abdullah gave royal assent. Britain recognised the union but withheld recognition of Jordanian sovereignty over Jerusalem; the United States recognised Jordanian control, not sovereignty. Israel took control of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in the June 1967 war. This earlier period explains who controlled the territory before the Temple Mount came under Israeli control.
