Israel Removes Al-Aqsa Metal Detectors After Mass Prayer Protests

Al Jazeera·25 July 2017

Israel removed metal detectors from entrances to the Al-Aqsa compound after Muslim worshippers refused to enter and prayed outside in protest for more than a week. The detectors and cameras had been installed after gunmen shot dead two Israeli police guards near the site on 14 July 2017, and Palestinian objections to other security installations continued. Even a change to the gates of the compound became an international crisis, showing how tightly the status quo on the Temple Mount is held.
