China sentences Early Rain pastor Wang Yi to nine years in prison

A Chinese court sentenced Early Rain Covenant Church pastor Wang Yi to nine years in prison for inciting subversion of state power and illegally operating a business. Reuters reported that the Chengdu court also deprived him of political rights for three years and confiscated 50,000 yuan. Wang had been detained with church members in December 2018. His church was among the Protestant congregations operating outside the state registration system.
