Ben-Gvir Says He Would Build a Synagogue on the Temple Mount

Al Jazeera·26 August 2024

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir told Army Radio that, if it were possible, he would build a synagogue at the Al-Aqsa compound, the site Jews call the Temple Mount. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said there was "no change" to policy, and other Israeli officials condemned the remarks. A serving minister openly proposing a Jewish house of worship on the site marks a shift in what can be said in government about the place where the Temple stood.
