Vietnam's government has submitted a draft Law on Electronic Identification and Authentication to the National Assembly, building a national system around the VNeID platform to combat online fraud. It would extend digital identification beyond people to products, assets, software, transactions and digital assets, set rules for cross-border recognition, and ban falsified biometrics. Lawmakers raised privacy, data-collection and cost concerns, so the scope of identity-linked access to the digital economy is still being tested.
