Vietnam Drafts Law to Expand Electronic ID to Assets and Locations

Vietnam's Ministry of Justice has published a draft Electronic Identification and Authentication Law extending the country's e-ID system beyond individuals to cover goods, vehicles, digital assets and even locations. The system already logs over 235 million authentications and 92 million subscribers linked to the national population database, with plans through 2035 to sensor-equip major highways and standardise IoT traffic data. This move toward a mandatory, centrally verified identity layer covering people, property and place mirrors a broader global trend toward comprehensive digital identity infrastructure.
