Türkiye plans digital ID wallet pilot for 2027 as e-Devlet age checks expand

Türkiye's 2027 Presidential Annual Program plans a national digital identity wallet prototype for identity documents and diplomas, to be piloted at a university. The state e-Devlet portal is also expanding, with a target of 71 million users, and from 1 November it will be the route for verifying ages on social media, with a tobacco age-check system planned within a year. Authorities describe the age tokens as privacy-protecting, but access to online platforms and everyday purchases is becoming tied to a state identity system.
