Sierra Leone Builds MOSIP-Based Digital ID with Verifiable Credentials

Sierra Leone is consulting private-sector and civil-society stakeholders to build governance, legal and technical foundations for a national digital identity ecosystem based on the open-source MOSIP platform and W3C verifiable credentials, following a recent partnership with Bhutan and the Sign Foundation. The plan links trusted digital identity with digital payments and interoperable data exchange as core pillars of the country's public-service infrastructure. This reflects a broader global pattern of governments building biometric identity systems that increasingly gate access to services, commerce and financial participation.
