Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials meet Iran in Tehran to defuse Gulf tensions

Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey met Iranian leaders in Tehran in an effort to head off possible US and Israeli attacks, which Iran has promised to answer. The talks follow failed US–Iran peace diplomacy and Yemen fighting that has spilled into Saudi Arabia. The meeting shows Muslim-majority powers trying to build a regional security arrangement around Iran, but it is a diplomatic effort only. Whether it prevents wider regional war is not yet established.
