Open Rights Group research says the UK Home Office uses AI for asylum age assessment, phone-content checks, sham-marriage detection, case prioritisation, and border surveillance through live facial recognition, drones and satellites. The group says much of this operates in near-total secrecy, while the Home Office says AI assists caseworkers and does not make decisions. The report shows automated identification and data-driven sorting of people becoming routine in state border control, with limited public oversight of how those systems work.
