Oman urges Gulf-Iran security pact as Saudi, Turkish, Pakistani envoys visit Tehran

Oman's foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, called for a non-aggression security pact joining the six Gulf states, Iran and Iraq, with the US no longer the primary security provider. The speech came as Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani defence and intelligence chiefs met officials in Tehran to head off renewed US-Iran fighting, while Pentagon briefings point to a possible US assault and Hormuz blockades remain in place. The proposal would shift Middle East security away from American guarantees, but it faces strong regional resistance, so it is a proposal and not an agreed settlement.
