LifeSite analysis traces 40-year legacy of 1986 Assisi interreligious prayer event

A LifeSite analysis argues that the 1986 Assisi interreligious prayer gathering has shaped Catholic teaching, noting that "the Spirit of Assisi" now appears in Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical and that a Vatican cardinal says it is part of ordinary teaching. A repeat event marks the 40th anniversary this October, though Leo XIV's attendance was cancelled on medical advice. The piece is a critical, traditionalist perspective, but it documents a gradual institutional embrace of multi-faith peace gatherings, which bears on the question of whether exclusive claims about Christ are being softened in favour of religious unity.
