Indonesia tenders 4PB storage for national biometric ID database

Biometric Update·29 October 2026

Indonesia's civil registration directorate has tendered 4 petabytes of storage to replicate population and biometric identification records across two Jakarta data centres, funded by a $250 million World Bank project. The upgrade follows a 2024 ransomware attack that disrupted more than 230 government agencies, and is linked to a planned $40 million biometric system and digital identity and e-KYC integration. As more public and private services depend on one central biometric identity platform, access to daily life increasingly rests on that system, an infrastructure pattern worth watching for how identity and participation become linked.
