Ghana in talks with 10+ African states on linking digital payments

Biometric Update·16 October 2026

Ghana's central bank governor said the country is negotiating with more than 10 African nations to connect digital payment systems, building on pilots with Nigeria and Rwanda that tested interoperability between central bank digital currencies, stablecoins, bank accounts and mobile wallets. The plan builds on the Ghana Card digital ID, issued to over 20 million people. It shows national digital identity, programmable money and cross-border settlement being joined into shared infrastructure, a pattern relevant to Revelation 13's picture of economic participation being regulated, though the stated aim is lower transaction costs.
