Romania, Albania, Moldova, Italy and Germany are moving digital identity wallets from pilot testing into production, letting citizens store IDs, licenses and diplomas on their phones and link them to banking and government services. Romania's ROWallet launches in October, Moldova's EVO wallet is now integrated with private banks, and Germany targets January 2027 for full EU eIDAS compliance. This continent-wide shift toward digital credentials tied to financial and administrative access shows identity and payment systems becoming increasingly centralised and interdependent across national borders.
