EUDI Wallet Emerges as Trust Standard for AI Agent Commerce

A WE BUILD Consortium policy paper and FIDO Alliance leaders are positioning the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet and verifiable credentials as the trust layer for autonomous AI agents conducting commerce, projecting billions of such agents operating across borders by 2030. FIDO is extending its passkey standards work into agentic authentication, with Google and Mastercard involved, using Europe's digital identity infrastructure as a global interoperability baseline. This shows identity credentials being built into the infrastructure required to authorise transactions, extending identity-based control over economic participation from humans to automated agents acting on their behalf.
