The European Commission has adopted a binding regulation requiring that cross-border access to patient health records under the MyHealth@EU system be authenticated through national eIDAS digital identities and EU Digital Identity Wallets, starting March 2027. By 2029, member states must issue citizens' healthcare attributes directly into their EUDI Wallets, with authentication assurance levels rising through 2032. The move extends the EU's digital identity infrastructure from a general-purpose credential into a mandatory gateway for essential healthcare services, deepening the link between verified digital identity and access to public systems across Europe.
