EU KIDS Act Proposes Bloc-Wide Age Checks, EU Digital ID Wallet Role

Biometric Update·17 September 2026

The European Commission has adopted the EU KIDS Act, setting minimum ages of 13 to hold accounts and 15 to freely sign up for social media, video platforms, games and AI chatbots across all member states, with platforms and app stores required to enforce age checks. The legislation positions the EU Digital Identity Wallet as the intended long-term verification layer for proving age and other personal attributes online. This is a concrete step toward EU-wide digital identity infrastructure that daily online access will increasingly depend upon.
