
Ethiopia has converted its national digital ID operator into a state-owned enterprise, Faydaverse, under its sovereign investment holding company, with the system nearing 50 million biometric registrations and over 190 million authentications completed. The enterprise is now exporting its infrastructure abroad, signing an MoU to help Mozambique build its own digital ID system, with ambitions to support continent-wide trade initiatives. This shows how quickly mandatory biometric identity can scale from a single nation into shared infrastructure spanning a continent's services, banking and trade.
