Carney Tells Davos the World Order Faces “a Rupture, Not a Transition”

Mark Carney told the World Economic Forum in Davos on 20 January 2026 that the world was experiencing “a rupture, not a transition”. Canada’s prime minister said great powers were using economic integration as a weapon and urged middle powers to act together and build greater strength at home. He defended sovereignty while seeking new partnerships. A close US ally said openly that the old order was over and a new one had to be built.
