Canada bill bans mental-illness euthanasia but allows advance requests

Canada's Liberal government introduced Bill C-41, which permanently bars Medical Assistance in Dying for mental illness alone while allowing adults to make advance requests, with provinces deciding whether to permit them. Campaign Life Coalition says this leaves only doctors and nurses as a safeguard and risks death without contemporaneous consent; the Justice Ministry says all eligibility rules, including intolerable suffering at the time, must still be met. The dispute shows assisted dying widening in a major democracy, a departure from the biblical view of life as God-given (Genesis 1:27; Exodus 20:13).
